Avon Volunteer Fire Department adds new service truck to assist in emergencies
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) has placed a new piece of equipment in service. Storm 46 is a special service truck that will assist the AVFD in navigating flooded streets during emergencies.
This vehicle will also give the AVFD the ability to move needed supplies and personnel to assist the community during high water events. The truck also has special lights allowing better visibility at night.
Storm 46 is a 2001 reconditioned former military FMTV five-ton 6×6 truck. The work was done by Memphis Equipment, a company well known for its refurbishing of military vehicles for fire departments and civilian use.
AVFD Chief Hopkins says having a vehicle with these capabilities helps the fire department better serve the community in their time of need.
